Elimination Communication (Infant Potty Training)

2 Elimination Communication (Infant Potty Training)Please don’t critize my decision to EC. It’s something I feel strong about, every parent knows what’s best for their family/lifestyle. This is just something that works for us. If you have any questions, just ask me and I will make another video or message you back.

What is Elimation Communication?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Elimination_communication

(EC) is a practice in which a caregiver uses timing, signals, cues, and intuition to address an infant’s need to eliminate waste. Typically the goal is to partially or completely avoid the use of diapers. EC emphasizes communication between the caregiver and child, helping them both become more attuned to the child’s innate rhythms and control of urination and defecation. The term “elimination communication” was inspired by traditional practices of diaper-less baby care in less industrialized countries and hunter-gatherer cultures. Some practitioners of EC begin soon after birth, although it can be started with babies of any age

  4. I knew little about …
I knew little about EC, sound like a nice and green option. Good info, especially about the pads.

  5. IKEA has those …
IKEA has those potty pads… They are supposed to go under the sheet in the crib, but they are what you describe and then are next to the sheets in the baby/kids section :)
    Thanks for the video!

  6. people actually …
    people actually criticize you??? wow…
Did you know more of the population chooses EC than those who use diapers? This is obviously not true for North Americans, but think about 3rd world countries and what not. you think mama in Africa can buy diapers? lol. no. It’s common practice in more places than not… except in wealthy countries where we can afford to throw our money away. EC has so many benefits! you’re doing a great job, momma!!! :D

  7. It really is a lot …
It really is a lot about intuition and now that I know her cues, I have to take her potty because I know when she has to go. It’s pretty cool because I never thought it was possible :-)

  8. I’m so happy to see …
I’m so happy to see you are doing EC!

I wish more people thought it was training, but picking up on your babies clues/timing/intuition etc.

  9. Oh, and here in New …
Oh, and here in New Zealand it’s recommended you don’t start baby on solids till 6 months-funny how government policy affects our lives huh :)

  10. hha Oh yeah,people …
hha Oh yeah, people think I’m nuts as well!! But how can someone say your “causing emotional harm” Lol that’s ridiculous. We all “go” on the potty, it’s completely normal. Glad things are going so well with your experience with EC!!

  11. Thanks for your …
Thanks for your video! I started EC with my bub 2 weeks ago and she got it straight away! EVERYONE thinks I’m nuts though! Even my partner didn’t agree with it because his family ( who are awesome really ) told him I’d be causing her emotional harm. Once I saw how easy it was though I couldn’t stop, it would be like me ignoring her while she was hungry. I’ve felt a bit weird about pulling her potty out at other people’s places, but I think I’m just going to go ahead and do it. :)

  12. I think it’s …
I think it’s wonderful that you are doing this! I agree all the way!

  13. Sorry I”m so late …
Sorry I”m so late at responding to you!!
No, it didn’t take long for her to figure it out. It was more me paying attention to her needs and when she needed to go. If I look for her cues, then I know she needs to go and once I put her on the toilet, she goes right away. I’ll admit, sometimes I’m lazy and don’t feel like taking her into the potty. But I can either put the time and energy into it NOW or do it when she’s a toddler.

  14. oh wow, that’s …
oh wow, that’s awesome!! it’s better to start late than never. you can put the time in now or put it in when he’s a toddler. We don’t go out that much, but you can always take a little potty (or a bowl) and have them go potty in that

  15. U r doing such a …
U r doing such a great job!Me and my brother were potty train by 9 mo(day and night) so now i have a 7 mo old baby who I’m starting to put him on the potty but because of not having my mom here for help(my fam lives in europe) I think I’m a little late but I will do my best. The only thing I’m afraid is that he has to be on the potty very often and we are very outdoors people who go for at least 2.5-3 h walks twice a day.How do you do it,because I don’t want to have him in diapers? Thanks

  16. You are so cute, …
You are so cute, great job with the EC! Continue to do what’s right for you! Thanks for the vid, I’m sending it to my friends that have small babies.

  17. You don’t *have* to …
You don’t *have* to introduce solids at 6 months (unless you’re formula feeding) :D

Good on you for ECing! I don’t see how people think that it makes sense to teach a baby to go to the bathroom in a diaper, only to start teaching them 18 months later that they should no longer do that. Talk about confusing!

  18. Good for you!!!!! …
Good for you!!!!! Don’t listen to what anyone else thinks or says – you know what is best for your family and your daughter!!! It’s funny you posted this because i was just reading about it and I was thinking i was the only one out there that was thinking about it : ) Thank you for posting this!!!!!!!!!!

  19. ive never heard of …
ive never heard of potty training this early but i cant see why anone would find it shocking or critisize you for it .. whats the big deal? babies learn very quickly by routine if you do the same thing every day they will quickly pick that up sounds like a good idea to me cant possibly do any harm i go through an obscene amount of nappies/diapers and we all know they aint cheap so good for you :) x

  20. that’s awesome!! …
that’s awesome!! people can either chose to put the time towards potty training when they are infants, or they can put the time in when they are a toddler.

  21. I was potty trained …
I was potty trained as an infant. I think it’s a great thing and when I was a toddler, potty training wasn’t a power struggle.

  22. thanks for making …
thanks for making this video, I had heard of ec as a friend of a friend is doing it but I didn’t know how it works. Might start trying it with my 10 week old- like you said, to be potty trained by 1 would be awesome! we go out almost every day though as I don’t like being at home alone for so long before her daddy gets home, so that might make it more difficult. Glad it has worked so well for you- hope we manage it too :) x

  23. You definately …
You definately shouldnt be critisized! I think it’s an amazing thing you are doing. Ive never heard of EC since before watching your video – I wish I’d heard about this sooner as it’s something I’d have loved to try if Holly was younger. She’s 7 and half months now and I’m due to go back to work in Dec =( Did it take you long to figure it out?

  24. I don’t know why …
I don’t know why you’re getting negative comments for doing something that you feel is positive for your daughter. It seems to me that you saw a problem (i.e. wet diapers causing irritation) and found a way to fix it. I say, GOD FOR YOU! You’re a great mom! Keep up the good work. I most certainly will look into this and keep it in the back of my mind for later days ;)
